I was a little afraid when I started this project. I hadn't done illustrations in a long time and I feared it would take me longer than I wanted to finish this design, trying to remember what I learned back in design school about meshes and colors, etc. I'm pleased with the outcome, but I'll you give the final verdict.
So noon wanted to promote that they will start selling cars on the platform in Saudi Arabia. Of course we wanted it to be fun and unexpected. There was one particular car that was going on sale to begin with, but to tease the campaign, we thought it would be cool to create a 'noon car' to show that cars were coming to noon.
So I started off with a vintage Mustang and painted it yellow (of course), then on revealing day, we matched the two cars against each other and made a subtle animation to show that the actual car for sale was the Toyota - we didn't want people to think we were in the business of selling vintage Mustangs.
So off I went on Adobe Illustrator and began my design. I will tell you this, I don't know much about cars, so I had to look for videos and images of the actual Mustang so I could familiarize with its design and therefore I could be able to mimic that on mine.
I think the result is pretty decent. I think we achieved everything we wanted this car to be, fun, exotic and branded!
I wanted the title of the campaign to stand out because this was supposed to be a big deal and a first for the company. So, knowing that the car would take most of the space, I opted for placing the text creatively on top of the vehicle. That way, it becomes imposing and clear that this is an important message.
For the landing page, it was crucial that the design was simple and easy to navigate. So we put the two versions of the car at the very top, big and prominent against colorful backgrounds so they're easy to identify. Together with price, call to action and basic specs, this was ready to be the main star in our campaign. All this was followed by technical and design information about the car that was being sold.
I really would like to do more illustrations moving forward. I already have a couple of ideas in my head I would like to pursue in the future and hopefully they'll make it to this space.
In the beginning of this post I said I was afraid of doing illustration. I really was, but you know what? I shouldn't have been, because everything you know always comes back to you one way or another. You just need a little imagination, a little Google and a little motivation to do what you love - for me, it's design.
